The televote decided that Alexander Rybak's Fairytale would be the one song that would represent the country. Alexander's victory came as no surprise: almost all betting agencies had seen him as the big favourite as the song is already No.1 in the official Norwegian charts.

The Gerry Logan Review

gerry_logan.jpgWell, well. It seems Norway are massive favourites in the betting at just under 3/1 but is it justified? If I was forced , I'd probably say... I suppose so. In a Eurovision sense, it has a lot of attributes: quirky, upbeat, energetic, catchy and with a young fella of eastern european origin representing a popular country and playing a fiddle. Never underestimate the power of the fiddle.

And never underestimate the idiot voters' ability to propel rubbish like this to the top (no.1 in the Norway charts). The grans and grandads especially will warm to this youngster despite his smug, slappable face. I'm not sure when it happened but smug and slappable definitely has become the new, 'cute and adorable'.

If it moves closer to 5/1 I may take some interest in it. As things are at the moment, I wouldn't necessarily say it was the worst bet in Eurovision history as there's not a great deal of quality about this year. Having said that, quality seldom matters in this event and one or two others with a more 'mainstream' sound could nip in ahead and take the crown.
