Early Championship Thoughts 29-03-08

ChampionshipFor the love of God - how tight are the games this weekend? Preston v Sheffield Utd is another that's unbelievably close. Both undefeated in the last five - both with four wins and a draw - Sheffield Utd only three points ahead overall - goals scored and conceded incredibly close - recent head to heads full of draws - shall we quietly slip out the back and hope this game doesn't notice? Preston edging it if we compare their home record to Utd's away but even then it's not a huge margin. We may as well add this to the draws list and move on.

Sheffield Wednesday v Stoke - hahaha. And so it continues. How tight? Very. Ooh matron! Well it is if we look at results over the last six table. Wednesday looking in good form and back to being a tough side to beat. I suppose sitting in one of the relegation places will make you determined though - the reality hits home and you start to battle (of course if they showed this same fight earlier... uh huh). Only 5th placed West Brom have beaten them over the last six and there's a decent win at QPR and draw with Palace which if I recall they were very, very close to winning.

Obviously Stoke are sitting atop the table and will be expected to win BUT I'm not so sure. These boys are stumbling I tells ye. Only a single win over the last six (at a Norwich side who have been struggling) and they are another side failing miserably in the goals department. It's not title winning form is it? The odds for the home win are a bit below what I'd be looking for however so.... we'll wait and see what develops. Pretty sure I won't be anywhere near Stoke though. Yuck.

Another team I won't be touching is good ol' West Brom of A. Hot and cold, up and down. Unreliable. Two wins in six and one of those is a mighty fine looking 3-0 home to Plymouth but I just don't trust them to see off Colchester without a sweat. Yes, the table will tell you Colchester are appalling (really really) and are leaking goals but I don't want to back a side that's stumbling along @ 1.40. I'm sorry. To be fair though, that's probably a bit of value on paper. I'm just anticipating WBA giving folk palputations and I don't need that. Go Colchester! And try not to crumble as you have been doing.

I hate Charlton. I hate them. Why? Because everytime they look like picking up they fall back down (usually when I've backed them). They've had a tough run over the last six though and maybe I'm too hard on them. Nah. I want Wolves to beat them. Wolves looking not bad lately huh? Knocked in a few goals. Sitting one point above Charlton and one point off Plymouth in 6th. I can see Wolves being very determined not to lose this one and Charlton being very determined to win. I'm not really tempted by this game either though. X2, 1X, X, anything. Give me 4.00's for Wolves and I might pay attention....

Did I ramble on for three pages there? Bloody...hell... still team news and reports to get through not to mention leagues one and two and maybe even the rather dull Premier league. And then continental Europe... South America.... golf.... baseball.....zzzzzzzz.......
