There have been plenty of hefty kicks to the bollocks so far in this tournament and no doubt we're due for a couple more this evening as two of my favourites are in action. First up, the magical little Japanese face the formidable Korea DPR who look to be finding their form at just the right time after complaining of 'jet lag' in the group stages. They banged in 5 against a sorry Mexico in their last game and I have to confess, most of their goals looked quality. Korea are a real force in women's football these days and their U17 side recently won their own World Cup in New Zealand just a few weeks ago. And Japan don't have a very good record against Korea in women's football. Yep, everything looks to be against us but wait, hold on, don't panic. Japan have absolutely loads of quality of their own and have already defeated the tournament favourites, Germany, 2-1 with a glorious display of skill and passing. If they can dominate and outplay Germany then they really should be capable of giving anyone a game. And I fully expect them to give Korea a game tonight. You might still be able to get 2.95 for the Japan win over 90 and 2.30 for them to qualify. I've already bet on them to win the tournament outright @ 13.00 (best now for them is 6.50 at bwin) so I have quite a lot riding on this one. They're good enough. There is no doubt about that whatsoever. Will they perform to their capabilities though against their old nemesis? I'm going to say.... yup. And watch out France in the semi-finals as my wee Japanese angels are going to tear. You. Apart. Brazil v Germany - looks a great game this one and very hard to call. I've said since the beginning that I thought Brazil were real title contenders (currently 5.50 outright) as they look such a strong team overall. Quick, strong, aggressive, skillful. All the attributes required at this level. They don't pass the ball too well however and at times can really frustrate with their casual, almost uninterested style. They do pull out super bursts of individual brilliance though at key times and so far no one has looked able to stop them once they're in full flow. But defence I think could ultimately be the key in this one and Germany have looked anything but confident at the back (see Canada's equaliser for an example) whereas the Brazilian girls look immense. So solid and strong and fast. They always seem to be in the right position and tackle so well too. I like them. I think I fancy their number 4 a bit too. Bonus. Best odds for Brazil over the 90, last I looked, was 2.88 @ bet365 and 2.00+ for them to qualify. Shop around and you should find something decent enough. I should say, on a cautious note, that Germany are a powerful side too and certainly capable of scoring goals and causing lots of trouble. That's a risk we're going to have to take though. I think Brazil are a bit better and could shade this one. Remember, no more than 50p on these. Good luck. |
